Automating the assigning of multipliers to your business rates portfolio

Following announcements about new business rates multipliers related to properties used for the purposes of Retail, Hospitality and Leisure (RHL), the addition of a High Value multiplier and potential adjustments to existing multipliers, Local Authorities need a mechanism in place to identify the hereditaments that will be in scope.

Reports identifying business use and multiplier
Destin Solutions has addressed this by recently extending the functionality within our HUB SBRR fraud solution. We have built into HUB, the ability to produce reports identifying the use of premises by businesses which will then indicate what multiplier should be applied to each rates account within your portfolio.

Multiplier analysis and automation of confirmation letters
This new feature will enable you to run multiplier analysis to identify what multipliers should be applied to all your business rates properties and will have the ability to automatically produce a letter to be sent out to ratepayers for confirmation purposes.

Drawing data from multiple data sets to verify business nature
Whether a business is classified as RHL is down to the use of the premises and not the occupation of the premises, for example you may have accountants operating out of a shop in which case the RHL multiplier would not be applicable. HUB draws data from multiple datasets and now incorporates SIC codes to identify the exact nature of business a building is being used for.

With each new change to regulation we appreciate that this can create additional workload and resourcing issues for Local Authorities and have tried to mitigate this as much as possible.
